GBA emulator crashes on launch

Post by Tox »

Whenever I open Virtual boy 1.8, I get the error message saying that the program has encountered a problem and needs to close. Any way to fix this?

It worked fine yesterday. /emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

EDIT: Latest update - Restarted the computer, launched VBA, it didn't crash. Opened Pokemon Fire Red, and now I get the error message again.

VirtualBoy 1.8?

I assume you meen VBA 1.8?

I suggest you download VBA-M and try to run the game...I mean afterall...VBA-M is what this forum is for...not other emulators...

Yes, it's VBA-M version 1.8.0-SVN

Latest DX installed

OpenAl installed

Placed the vba-over file in the same folder as the launcher.

I'm not sure about the module. How do I check it?

Bah...we really need to add a SVN version option into VBA-M's menu.

Anyways make sure you have the latest SVN

http://vba-m.com/vbam/vbacompiles/msvc2008/VisualBoyAdvance583.7z

Then also make sure you have latest DirectX (I assume the error message is about a missing DirectX file) by downloading and using this tool.

Yep, 583 is the version that I was using

And I did run the directx updater while setting up the game. I'm not getting the missing file error. It's just the "program encounter a problem and needs to close, send error report or don't send" message box.

what audio mode is used? if its openal, you will need to set it to an output device (most sound cards only have generic hardware, and generic software as an option, but it doesn't automatically set it to one or the other.)

Maybe you can tell us about your operating system, graphics card and sound card?

GBA emulator crashes on launch

Sorry for the late reply

Here's what I did. I've deleted the save and battery files, replaced vba-over and started the game. Now it works perfectly although I had to play from the beginning all over again. I was running Zone Alarm in the back when I encountered crashing, so I had to turn it off before launching VBA, because it flags the program for trying to access dwwin.exe and that might have screwed things up.

Although everything seems to be in good shape right now, the problem might come back later, so I'll keep this thread updated if need be.

dwwin.exe is Dr. Watson (Debugger), so it seems like a crash already happened.

You should try putting your save or battery file back in.
