How to link over LAN using vba-m

So i wanted to trade in pokemon emerald over LAN with my brother using vba-m. I set every thing up from options>link>type and selected cable did the same in my brother's pc . Started a network link using my local ip and then joined it from my brother's pc. It said all players joined. After we both talked to the game link club girl on the second floor,we saved and then it asked me to confirm the 2 player link. I confirmed but then on both our screens it said, "Sorry, we have a link error. Please reset and try again." Any help would be appreciated.

Link connections currently don't work reliably at the moment and it's not exactly on the top of the list of things to fix. But it is on the list of things to fix.
