sonic advance and sonic adventure 2 battle linking

I have what i believe to be is the newest version of vba-m (1097). i am trying to link to dolphin (r7503) with the sonic games mentioned in the title... I've enabled joybus and changed the settings as described in other posts. unfortunately, the game does link but doesn't recognize that the sonic advance game is active. In the "pick up" screen, there is just a picture of a GBA and no chaos. I can drop off a chao in the tiny chao garden but not pick them up as it doesn't seem to acknowledge that the gba game is inserted. if this is being worked on or if anyone has ever successfully transferred a chao FROM the VBA-M TO Dolphin, I'd greatly appreciate some help.
