Drymouth (a homebrew game by Demiforce) has issues.

During the intro, there are times where the screen flashes black below a certain scanline. I think it might be related to inappropriate use of the STOP instruction. I've never seen what the game does on actual hardware, so I can't tell whether it's correct or not, but I'm sure that shouldn't be there.

There are also times during gameplay where the screen flashes black, such as right when the playfield appears. Again, I do not know its actual behavior on hardware. It might be doing something illegal.

I'm curious how other emulators handle it...

 

Do they work out okay with it?

Other emulators either ignore the STOP, or treat the stop as a HALT.

Do you know when this first broke or is this a original issue altogether?

As far as I know, it's been in there since before VBA-M was started.

Have you tried some of Forgotten's original VBA builds aswell?

VBA Rerecording v20 (based on forgotten's unfinished beta) has the same exact problems.

Least thats a lead.

Each time Drymouth gives a black screen, it is performing a speed switch.

Thanks for the info Dwedit, if you come across any more findings please post them, the more info we have the quicker the problem will be to pin point and hopefully fix.
