Final Fantasy IV SFX

Post by anon258 »

Sorry for reposting - this looks like the proper forum for this question

So I had the latest version of VBA and shortly after I started playing Final Fantasy IV Advance, the sound effect for being hit by an enemy with a physical attack stopped playing altogether. This was odd since it had been working right when I started, but I reproduced this error with other versions of VBA, with other copies of the game, from my save file and from a new game, with probably every possible variation of sound settings. I restarted the computer and the problem persisted.

So I googled around and found VBA-M and figured it may be fixed if I get that set up...but what's weird is it was worse - fewer sound effects were working (for example, right now the sound effect for one of my characters attacking with an axe works in my VBA, but not my VBA-M). This error persists in VBA-M for both XAudio 2 and DirectSound 8.

I have observed that in both VBA and VBA-M, only Channel 2 (playing a low bass line for songs) and Direct Sound A. I'm using Windows 7 64x.

Last paragraph, I meant to say "I have observed that in both VBA and VBA-M, only Channel 2 (playing a low bass line for songs) and Direct Sound A (playing all the rest of the music and all sound effects) were working; the other channels are soundless".

I actually just fixed this issue in VBA by selecting "Reverse Stereo". I figured all that would do was swap which sound came out of my left and right speakers, but somehow it gave me back the desired sound effect. Couldn't do this in VBA-M.

Well not every games use all channels, some games only use a few channels or direct sound only.

VBA-M does have a buggy Channel 3 sound where sound became more treble or volume dropped to very low (almost disappearing), but i haven't heard about bugs on other channels.

Physical attack hit sounds seems to be played on channel 4.

Have you try enabling stereo upmixing in xaudio2 and see if its help?

Also, could you provide your save game for testing.
