[FIXED]Black Screen

Post by gamerk2 »

I recently got a new PC, and I'm having display issues with ALL version of VBA. When i load a ROM, the screen remains blank, regardless of any video/filter/bios options i set. The sound still works, and if i take a screen capture, i get the correct image.

I've tried the 5 most recent SVN compiles, as well as the last two versions of VBA-S so far, and the all have the same problem. And yes, my Direct x is fully updated, thats not the issue.

I can also confirm that most other emulators (No$GBA for instance) work fine, so its not the games either.

CPU: 3.0 GHz Quad Core (Intel 9650 i believe)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2

Any ideas on how to get VBA working for me again?

That was the first thing i tried, but that didn't work either. I also tried most of the filtering options but still nothing.

On a side note, this may be entirely unrelated, but when I use Ideas for NDS emulation, if i set the zoon to 1.5, i get a simmilar effect (though that emulator is so unstable, it could just be the emulator acting up...).

EDIT

I just noticed, that all emulator status messages are hidden as well. That is, if a save a state, the message saying I did won't show (or to be more precisise, is behind the black screen). The messages show up in any screenshots taken as well.

What version driver are you using for the video card?

175.16, the latest drivers for the card.

Have you tried uninstalling the ones you have now(Make sure you fully clean them off the drive, otherwise problems could happen. Luckily, this is easy. Just get Guru3d's driver sweeper), and trying an earlier version?

That's one strange problem.

From your description I conclude that this issue is only related to the Graphics Output code, not to emulation or the GUI.

Now, what really is bugigng me is that you use a high-end Graühics card with latest drivers, so it can't be an unsupported extension we might have used.

Hm, on second thought, the GX2 is an SLI-OnBoard-Monster, right? Could you try to disable SLI completely or just for the VBA-M app at least?

I believe you can do that using nHancer.

Good idea to disable the hybrid SLI on my GX2, but still no-go.

You are right though, is does sound like an output issue, given that screenshots (from within the emulator) work fine. I'm still toying around with things on my end, but have a clue right now...

EDIT

Just found out that pSX has the same exact issue. Looking into other emulators now.

EDIT2

ePSXe doesn't work either; same blank screen with the DX7/D3D, OpenGL, and OpenGL2 plugins. Its not the emulator, its something else on my end.

I'm going to look into IdeaS some more, as it also has an issue, but only at a 1.5x zoom, so maybe its some sort of sizing issue???
