VMV movies losing sync

Post by DarkMorford »

A friend and I are trying to record a Let's Play of "The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages" using VBA-M R1085. We record a VMV "movie" as we play and provide commentary (which is recorded into Adobe Audition on the same computer), then play back the movie while recording to AVI.

In certain situations, though (mostly in dungeons), the VMV playback seems to lose step with the game, resulting in a very different "playthrough" and forcing us to re-do it.

I've attached an example of this phenomenon. During the boss fight (about midway through, so feel free to fast-forward in Turbo Mode), you'll notice Link fall off one of the platforms and then run, jump, and throw bombs around on the floor. It goes without saying that this battle originally played out much differently.

I realize that this particular recording may be unsalvageable, but what can I do to prevent this in future game sessions? (Or is this a legitimate bug in the recording engine that needs to be fixed?)

try using a keyboard as the input device rather than a gamepad, if things work differently it might be that the movie queue file isn't tracking gamepad button presses correctly

Doesn't BGB have the movie feature? If what Squall says doesn't work, try BGB.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case. The emulator exhibits the same behavior if the keyboard is used for input. The recording is attached; hopefully it can help tease out the real issue here.

EDIT: I've looked at BGB, and if it has that recording functionality, I can't find it. Can anyone advise?

Input Recorder of an emulator is not fundamentally high-precision.

If they are not what is made for the purpose of record, and what is called TAS Emulator, they will be correctly unrecordable.

In GB/GBA TAS Emu, there is vba-rerecording.

However, since a sound emulation continues being Old VBA, the sound of vba-rr is very bad...
